As the back-to-school season kicks off, Google has announced a suite of new AI-powered study tools across Google Search and the Gemini app. Designed to act as a personal learning assistant, these features range from interactive 3D visualisations and customized practice quizzes to automated research reports for students mastering complex subjects.
In Google Search, users querying complex scientific topics—such as the "pH scale" or "DNA structure"—will now see interactive 3D simulations embedded within AI Overviews. Students can zoom, rotate, and ask follow-up questions to customize the visual models. Additionally, students preparing for standardized exams like the SAT, GRE, or LSAT can request customized AI practice quizzes, while Google Lens offers step-by-step problem-solving directly from photos of homework problems.
Within the Gemini app, Google introduced a dedicated "Student Hub" that consolidates study notebooks, flashcards, and study guides into a single workspace. Furthermore, Gemini Live now integrates a "Deep Research" feature, allowing students to initiate multi-step research reports via voice and subsequently hold conversational Q&A sessions with the AI once the report is finalized.
